Ben Was Here

Goodbye Cable

After spending most of the evening looking through Hulu, I’ve decided I’ll definitely be okay without cable television. Despite all the “reality” programs and E! Network garbage, there are quite a few great programs available. The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, 30 Rock, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, all the shows I watch are there. And to boot, there are great shows like Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and Bruce Campbell in Jack of All Trades. Its also like digging through the NBC/Universal vault with tons of old shows that will provide a handful of evenings entertainment.

The brief interruptions by commercials are worth sitting through, although they get old fast. I would suggest that they mix it up a little more. After watching a whole Simpsons episode and part of a Studio 60 episode, I saw the same Best Buy commercial four or five times.

As the video quality looks ok on my 19″ monitor, I am going to go through with my plans to ditch cable next month. I assume this means I’ll be more productive, but I may spend even more time watching TV since there will always be something good on.
